Creating Timeless Beauty: A Marmorino Plaster Finish for Your Great Room

Creating Timeless Beauty: A Marmorino Plaster Finish for Your Great Room

I love creating unique and beautiful finishes for walls and other surfaces. Recently, I completed a project using Bernini Marmorino plaster, which I import from Vincenza, Italy near Venice. I try to spend a couple of months a year in Italy leaning and experinecing the culture, food, history and the architecture. But I do love to learn the ancient, regional and unique ways of making this plaster, including mixing, tinting, and applying it to create beautiful and durable finishes.

On this particular project, I used 75 gallons of Bernini Marmorino plaster to create a unique and stunning finish for the walls of a great room. I applied multiple layers of plaster, blending various colors to create a heavy texture that is both visually interesting and soothing to the touch. The resulting texture and colors create a relaxing backdrop for the family to enjoy, especially during game night by the fire with a large wall of windows to enjoy the rolling hills by the river.

Marmorino plaster is a special type of lime plaster that has been used for centuries in Italy and other parts of the world to create beautiful and durable finishes for walls and other surfaces. It is made by combining slaked lime with various aggregates, such as marble dust or crushed stone, to create a unique texture and color.

The process of creating a Marmorino finish is quite simple but requires skill and experience. It begins with mixing the plaster, which involves combining the slaked lime and aggregates with water and letting the mixture mature for several days to achieve the desired consistency. Once the marmorino is ready, it is applied to the wall in several layers, each layer adding depth and texture to the finish.

The end result is a stunning, durable finish that is both visually interesting and soothing to the touch. The heavy texture and blend of colors in this particular great room create a beautiful backdrop for the family to enjoy for years to come. And with a passion for superior quality and generational craftsmanship, I am proud to have been able to bring this ancient art form to life in a modern setting.

Marmorino plaster is a beautiful and durable finish that can add depth and texture to any interior. Its unique blend of colors and textures creates a visually interesting and soothing backdrop for any room. And with my experience in importing and using Marmorino plaster, I am proud to offer my clients a unique and beautiful finish that is both timeless and modern.

Now that this project is finished, I am off to Hollywood, Maryland for my next project, where I will be using faux bois techniques to create beautiful finishes on pine doors. If you're interested in learning more about this project and how I achieve a faux mahogany finish on pine doors, be sure to check out my blog post on the topic.
